Examining Digital Manga Guild

Well folks, I’ve decided to go ahead and share my thoughts about Digital Manga Publisher’s Digital Manga Guild.

Quick background information, Digital Manga Publisher originally asked the public about the idea of having scanlators legitimately work on mangas for a royalty during the time when the US government and the publishing industry at large were starting to take a more “aggressive” attack on illegal scanlations.

Anyway, I actually heard about this from the About Mangaspotlight Blog and decided to give it a shot. I applied for the editor and typesetter position back in November. It took only one day for me to complete both tests; however, due to technical difficulties on their part, I had to try five times to upload both files.

Three months later, I received a message saying that I passed both tests and that my next task was to go onto their forums and find a group. I thought “okay, this should be easy. All I have to do is find a translator and typesetter. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?” I was horribly wrong. As I soon found out, there were more editors and typesetters than translators, supporting the idea that the translators held the true power. I mean, after all, a typesetter or editor lack the capability to translate the Japanese texts. Fortunately, I found a four person group and quickly proved to be a reliable individual.

At the moment, there is little action going on at the forum now because they’re still ironing out the details regarding publishers, tax issues, and lack of translators. There are some teleconferences that will happen this week so that members can eagerly ask their questions. Other than that, from what people have been telling me, most are losing interest in the movement. Despite the lack of people now on the forums, I know full well that I intend to stick it out.

A New Day Starts Today

Hello everybody.

My apologies for not updating this account, or any of my accounts for that matter, for months, but I’ve been in somewhat of a runt as of late. My Project GENESIST manga is still delayed, I haven’t improved much in drawing, and I’ve been busy with work. But after spending some time with my brother’s neglected dogs, I had an impevany. Enough is enough. Starting today, I will take the initiative to strive for perfect. I just need to dedicate a little time each day to the tasks I want to achieve. So starting today, I make that change. I’ll be on here and online for the sole purpose of improving myself. I just hope this doesn’t interfere with Becker CPA Exam review …-_-;

So stay tune folks. I have quite a bit of writing for the online world.

A-Kon 2010

I decided to attend A-Kon just for the fun of it this year down in Dallas, Texas.

Instead of writing down what happened hour by hour, I opted to take the easy way and show everyone.

Due to college work and the distance to Dallas, I deemed it best to take a couple of friends down to the location of A-Kon and see what it was like all day Saturday and early morning Sunday.

Surprisingly, the registration line wasn’t that long.

A white mage standing next to a Chocobo. Alternatively, a giant chicken and an egg.

There was quite a crowd in the dealer’s room. Anyone could by tons of anime collectibles at a hefty price.

I attended several panels, from the Rise of the Webcomic to Making it as a Writer in the Comic Industry.

I also attended my first auction ever and won two items for $30.

OMG!!! GIANT TOAST!!!

Besides attending a couple of more panels and buying stuff, I retired to my hotel room @ 10:00 pm.

Since I had to travel back home and take a test, I went to A-Kon on Sunday only for four hours. Through all the browsing, I only bought one more thing before running out of cash, the Gold Digger CD-ROM V 2.0 from Antarctic Press. Check it out today @ http://www.antarctic-press.com/html/version_01/index.php.
